Treatise 1573 French France

Henri de Sainct-Didier

S-block staging entry validated for model fit. Imported from staging batch duell-thimm-s, source entry 1871.

Gelli confirms the major 1573 Sainct-Didier witness with portraits, extensive woodcuts, autograph signature, and strong bibliographic rarity. The former continuation placeholder record was merged back into this main work.

Castle also records the Paris 1573 Henri de Sainct-Didier witness.

Vigeant 1882 calls Sainct-Didier the first fencing book to appear in France and a first-rank bibliographic curiosity. He stresses the standing portraits of Charles IX and the author, the autograph anti-counterfeit signature, the historical anecdotes with the duke of Guise and Italian masters, and the deep Italian influence, especially from Agrippa and Grassi.
