The former local 1737 date was a polluted shell value. Gelli restores the Strasbourg witness to 1787 and confirms the book's close dependence on Labat, with 16 engraved plates and careful production.
Castle records the Martin family under Strasbourg 1737, but stronger later bibliographic control in the catalogue keeps 1787 as the normalized witness and treats the earlier Castle reading as a secondary date.
Vigeant 1882 also preserves a Strasbourg 1737 Martin witness, published by the author with 16 plates, approbation, dedication, and notice to the reader. He says both the text and the engravings are inspired by Labat.
