Lo schermo

Treatise 1575 Italian Italy

Angelo Viggiani

V-block staging entry validated for model fit. Imported from staging batch duell-thimm-v, source entry 2286. Title normalized on August 6, 2026 from a long imported title-page form. The concise bibliographic title `Lo schermo` is used for catalog consistency, while the fuller 1575 wording is preserved in notes. Gelli also records the author under the historical variant form Vizzani; this is preserved as a remissive variant only, not as a separate author identity.

Castle also records the 1575 Venetian Viggiani witness with nine copperplates.

Vigeant 1882 treats the 1575 Venetian Viggiani as the superior witness and separately records the 1588 Bologna reissue under the Vizani spelling, preserving it as an edition-level variant rather than a separate work.

The malformed Vizani shell has been folded back into this canonical Viggiani work so that the 1588 spelling variant survives only as an edition-level witness. phase 90: former work 2067 individually reviewed and consolidated here.

Gelli praises the engraved figures as the principal material strength of the book and places the treatise alongside that of Dall'Agocchie, while judging its theoretical additions limited.

Vigeant 1882, p. 130: Venice, Giorgio Angelieri, 1575. In-4 with 9 copper engravings in the text; Vigeant judges these plates superior.
