La scherma illustrata

Book 1670 Italian Italy

Giuseppe Morsicato Pallavicini

Gelli describes this Palermo 1670 work as the finest and most substantial product of the Sicilian school up to that date, despite judging many of its explanatory figures excessive. Earlier imported data had also created a duplicate Wiktenauer-derived work record for the same edition; that duplicate is merged here.

Vigeant 1882 says Pallavicini's method aims particularly at elegance in sword handling, and that the abundance of engravings fully justifies the title Escrime illustree.
