The first edition appeared at Göttingen in 1739; the 1761 issue adds material including an appendix on Hiebfechten and broader historical commentary on fencing masters and schools. The work is an important printed witness for the Kreußler fencing tradition.
Gelli cites the 1780 Gottingen edition in detail and also notes a second edition at Helmstadt, 1761; the local Kahn records already cover the title family and the enlarged 1761 edition.
Castle also records the Göttingen 1739 Anthon Friedrich Kahn witness and notes the later Helmstädt reissue of 1761.
Vigeant 1882 presents Kahn as one of the most remarkable German masters and records the 1739 Gottingen original with the Fritsch portrait after Cuerland and 25 triple-engraving plates, followed by a 1761 Helmstadt second edition conforming to the original.
