Gelli confirms the 1847 Garnier edition of Les armes et le duel with the portrait of the chevalier de Saint-George and 10 lithographic plates. He also records a further 1847 issue with Grisier's portrait and a revised and enlarged third edition in 1864, which belong to the same work family.
Vigeant 1882 treats Grisier's Les armes et le duel as one of the most interesting and best-written historical works on fencing, while judging its didactic reasoning less solid than La Boessiere or Gomard. He distinguishes the 1847 original state, a same-year second state with an added portrait after Pellegrin, and the revised, corrected, and augmented Dentu third edition of 1864 with a different portrait signed E. Lassalle.
