La spada di honore, libro primo delle osservazioni cavaleresche

Treatise 1671 Italian Italy

Berlingiero Gessi

Book of cavalier observations by Berlingiero Gessi, bibliographically relevant to fencing history but explicitly described by Gelli as a code of honor rather than a fencing treatise. The local anchor had privileged a 1672 witness; Gelli cites the 1671 Bologna printing and notes later similar editions. Normalized on 2026-08-08 as the canonical Berlingiero Gessi record for La spada di honore. Duplicate work 495, contaminated by source-library OCR noise, was merged into work 1151 so that the correct author attribution and the fuller Bologna 1671 edition note remain on the canonical record.

Bologna, 1671, per l'Herede di Domenico Barbieri, ad istanza di Gio. Francesco Danesi detto il Tonino. Gelli stresses that this is not a fencing treatise but a code of honor; he notes related editions of 1672, 1677, and 1701.

Quality phase 101i: explicit publisher/printer statement linked after individual review.

Quality phase 117: Bologna 1671: [48], 360, 359–374, [56] pages and 11 leaves of plates, illustrated and portrait; 16 cm, 12mo.
