French maître d'armes, fencing historian, bibliographer, and institutional figure in the Parisian fencing world. He was one of the most important late nineteenth-century historians of fencing and duelling literature, authoring bibliographical, historical, and commemorative works while also serving as president of the Académie d'Armes de Paris.
