Achille Marozzo

Italian fencing master from Bologna and one of the central figures of the Bolognese school. He is chiefly known for `Opera Nova` (1536), one of the most important Renaissance Italian fight books, covering sword alone and with companion weapons, polearms, dagger, and judicial combat traditions.

Italian soldier and fencing master from Lucca, serving as ensign in the fortress of Bergamo and author of `Nuovo et brieve modo di schermire`. He belongs to the Agrippa-influenced rapier current of the later sixteenth century and is especially useful for tracing the adaptation of geometric or rationalized swordplay within northern Italian martial culture.

Italian fencing master, probably from Modena, active in northern Italy and later connected with the London print history of his work. His `Ragione di adoprar sicuramente l'Arme` (1570), translated into English in 1594 as `His True Arte of Defence`, is one of the classic early rapier treatises.
